Insurance Coverage
Bedwetting alarms
are often considered “medically necessary durable medical equipment”
for use in the treatment of primary nocturnal enuresis (bedwetting).
The diagnosis code for this is 788.36.
Qualifying Criteria
Depending on your policy, some major insurance companies will cover
bedwetting alarms such as the one used in the Try For Dry system. In
order to determine eligibility for reimbursement, an insurance company
may need to verify:
- The age of your child
- The number of nights your child wet over the past month or week
- If there is daytime wetting.
- If your child has been examined by a doctor to exclude causes
for the bedwetting, such as renal disease, infection, etc.
Obtaining a Prescription
The first step in pursuing insurance coverage is having a doctor to
properly diagnose the issue and prescribe an enuresis alarm system as
a solution.
You can also ask your doctor to visit the
Try for Dry
Affiliates Program
page, where he can learn how to join and
obtain free, pre-printed enuresis-related prescription pads.
Obtaining Coverage
Each insurance company is different, so you should ask your carrier
how to pursue coverage for an alarm. The following steps may be
helpful as general guidelines.
- Obtain the prescription from your doctor
-
Order the alarm kit (you must pay for it in full)
- Submit the prescription and your receipt for the alarm kit to
your insurance provider
